Total receipts for Brussels Livestock for the week ending Jan. 27 were 1,366 cattle and 417 lambs and goats.
On Tuesday, fed steers and heifers sold actively at stronger prices. Choice steers and heifers sold $190 to $200. Second-cut cattle sold $180 to $189. Aged and medium-fed steers and heifers sold $165 to $179. Cows sold on a strong active trade at steady prices.
On Thursday, veal sold strong and steady. Lambs, sheep and goats all sold steady.
On Friday, calves and yearlings sold fully steady. Yearling heifers sold on a higher market.
George Roney of Staffa, consigned 10 head. Two gold heifers averaged 1,455 lbs. and sold for an average price of $195.50.
K/C McAlpine Farms of Ailsa Craig, consigned eight head. Three charolais steers averaged 1,622 lbs. and sold for an average price of $200.
There were 250 cows on offer. Beef sold $98 to $134 with sales to $150; good holstein cows, $95 to $111; medium holstein cows, $76 to $84.
Bulls sold $111 to $148.
There were 100 head of veal on offer. Beef veal sold $215 to $238; good holsteins, $210 to $230; SL heavy holsteins, $200 to $227; heavy holsteins, $145 to $227; medium holsteins, $195 to $209; plain holsteins, $180 to $194.
