William "Bill" Charles Eckmier

William “Bill” Charles Eckmier passed away peacefully at Huronlea Home for the Aged, Brussels on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018. He was in his 90th year.

Bill was the loving brother of Isabel Sawchyn, brother-in-law of Jean Eckmier and proud uncle of Nancy and Brent Mills, Paul and Jan Eckmier, Larry Sawchyn, Bradley and Lorraine Eckmier, Gary and Darlene Buchanan, David Eckmier and Bob and Christine Sawchyn. He was the great-uncle of 17 great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-uncle of two.

Bill was predeceased by brothers Ross, Ronald and sister Marie Buchanan, brother-in-law Delmer Buchanan and Tom Sawchyn, sister-in-law Clara May Eckmier and nephew Calvin Buchanan.

Bill was a proud gardener. His generosity with his produce was well known in the community and no one ever went hungry at a family dinner. He was passionate about the weather and predicting it. He was a walking Farmers’ Almanac. Bill was a helpful, kind-hearted man who always put others’ needs before his own. 

Friends and family were received at Riverside Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 10  for visitation followed by the funeral service. 

In lieu of flowers as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Brussels Branch #218 would be appreciated. Cards of sympathy may be sent to Box 340, Brussels, ON N0G 1H0
