Student Show opens tonight at Blyth Festival Art Gallery
The Blyth Festival Art Gallery’s Student Show 2019 will kick off the gallery’s 44th season of exhibitions. This annual celebration of student creativity will feature the best work by students in Grades 9 to 12 in Huron and Perth County secondary school art programs. Visitors can view the show in the Bainton Gallery of the Blyth Memorial Hall. Many different artistic techniques will be featured, including mixed media, sculpture, photography, drawing, painting, printmaking and digital illustration.
For more than 25 years, art teachers from the Avon Maitland District School Board and the Huron Perth Catholic School Board have encouraged student participation in the annual Student Show. Each year, the artworks are properly mounted or framed for the show, teaching the students the value of professional presentation.
Five Awards of Excellence of $100 will be presented to outstanding student artists, reinforcing the sense that their artwork is valued by the public attending the venue.
The Student Show 2019 is presented by the Blyth Festival Art Gallery and sponsored by Mary Carroll in memory of Paul Carroll. The Student Award Sponsor is Fred Waltham. Bruce Stainton will curate this exhibition of exciting art, full of youthful energy and creative ideas.
The exhibition officially opens with a celebratory reception in the Bainton Gallery (next to the Blyth Festival box office) at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 9. All teachers, students, parents and members of the public are invited to the reception to join in the festivities. Refreshments will be served.
Visitors wishing to purchase a piece of art will be put directly in touch with the student artist, with the gallery taking no commission.
The Student Show 2019 will be open to the public during Blyth Festival box office hours, from May 9 until Thursday, May 16, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
