McInnes crowned Elementary School Fair Ambassador - April 4, 2019
BY DENNY SCOTT
Dozens of people were on hand to witness Bryn McInnes from Sacred Heart School in Wingham being crowned Elementary School Fair Ambassador.
In its first-ever ambassador night, which has been declared a success by Elementary School Fair board president Anne Procter, McInnes edged out Amelia Foreman from Maitland River Elementary School, being named ambassador for the 2019 fair and the 2019-2020 season.
Previously, the ambassador was chosen by the board during one of its regular meetings, but, with the 99th iteration of the fair set for this year, that same board felt there needed to be more pomp and circumstance associated with the decision, Procter said.
“We wanted to invite more people to attend and participate,” she said. “We had approximately 34 people in attendance, so the event was definitely a success.”
A number of past fair ambassadors were on hand for the event, including outgoing Ambassador James Speer, who officially passed his responsibilites on to McInnes and Abigail Peel, who emceed the event.
“We really want to thank our previous Ambassador James Speer, who did a terrific job representing the school fair last year,” she said.
McInnes plans on speaking to local schools about the event. The ambassador is also usually involved in programming leading up to the fair, including craft days held in Belgrave and Brussels over the summer.
In preparation for the 99th fair, the board is also starting a calendar fundraiser this year and is asking for photographs from former fairs to help make the calendar interesting.
